Background

Halliburton’s website had fallen behind the times. It was running on an old content management system that was being discontinued. The number of products the company have made it difficult to navigate. The navigation was organized based on internal groups and companies that became part of Halliburton with little thought to how users look for products. The site was also not responsive and text heavy with images that didn’t match the high-tech nature of Halliburton’s brand.

Approach

We partnered with an outside agency to research how are customers look for content. The research showed that users navigate the website looking to solve problems based on the stage of reservoir development they are in, the lifecycle of the development process.

We took the learnings from the research to test various navigation options with them and developed a new tree that matched the test results.

Along with the new navigation, we worked with internal stakeholders to explain the navigation concepts so that they can understand the reasons behind mixing certain products and services into other pages which may not necessarily belong to their internal group.

The pages were developed to have scannable content with large illustrations to enable users to scan pages quickly. We also worked with internal stakeholders to develop new illustrations to modernize the site compared to other competitors in the oil service industries.
