Previously, our emails lacked consistency in both design and voice, which made the customer experience feel disjointed. For existing customers, billing emails were often unclear, leading to confusion and an increase in customer care calls. New customers also struggled, as they had little visibility into where they were in the installation process, creating frustration and uncertainty during a critical stage of their journey.

We created email journeys designed to walk customers through the installation process, letting them know what to expect at every stage. To make things even easier, we added educational blocks with videos and articles customers could explore on their own. For prospect emails, we used those same blocks to promote other products they might be interested in, while also offering educational content to help them learn more about Sunnova’s services.

The new email system delivered great results. Invoice emails helped reduce customer care calls by 15%, while also improving on-time payments and boosting enrollment in autopay. On the prospect side, lead emails saw an average increase of 2–3% in email conversion rates.
